Summit Meeting Addresses Lack of Drugs in Pipeline

On March 8, leaders in psychiatry, government, advocacy, venture-capital firms, and the pharmaceutical industry gathered at APA headquarters for a "Pipeline Summit" to discuss causes of and remedies for the lack of psychiatric drugs in the development pipeline. Sponsored by the American Psychiatric Foundation, the gathering focused on ways to increase the number of effective psychiatric treatments being developed. Herbert Pardes, M.D., one of the summit's moderators, stated, "Our common goal is translating new science and technology into practice that enhances patient care.... Initiatives like this one help by engaging the whole range of research and development leaders in a dialogue."
