Oxymorphone Abuse On The Rise

Reuters (3/27, Wisniewski) reports that Opana, an opioid pain medication that contains oxymorphone hydrochloride, is a new and popular prescription medicine many are abusing. Abusing oxymorphone may come with deadly consequences, as this medication is more potent per milligram than oxycodone, which some users may not be aware of. According to John Burke, president of the National Association of Drug Diversion Investigators, the new reformulated version of oxycodone makes it more difficult to crush; therefore, more and more abusers are now turning to oxymorphone.
